Tree bracing

Tree bracing is the strategic placement of cables (guy wires), and if necessary, bracing devices and cable ties, in a tree, and in some cases also anchor points, driven into the ground, to support it. This practice is safe for the tree and is adaptable as the plant develops. 

Why might a tree need a support system? A problem in the general structure of the tree, low branches that have become too heavy, several trunks growing in different directions and damage caused by strong winds are among the most common reasons for this practice. 

It is important not to delay this procedure when it is necessary. Procrastination can have serious consequences, such as a sudden fall of a portion of the tree or the entire tree onto your home or vehicle.   

 Structural complication

A tree growing in an environment that is not as dense as a forest needs regular pruning by a professional arborist to give it an optimal shape over time, in relation to the elements that surround it. A tree that has been neglected or maintained by someone who does not have the necessary knowledge could have a crown that is too wide, too dense and too heavy for what the rest of its structure can support. This imbalance increases the risk of the tree being blown over by high winds. A combination of pruning and bracing could solve this problem. In addition, when branches are weakened for various reasons or when the weight of a tree is not evenly distributed throughout its structure, bracing can redistribute the tension and relieve the pressure on the tree. The structural problems obviously tend to get worse and worse, which can lead to cracking of the trunk or the fall of a part of the tree, or even the fall of the whole tree. Fortunately, this technique often avoids the need for felling and ensures the protection of buildings and people.   

Tree damaged by a storm

Sooner or later, the tree can no longer support this pressure by itself and a crack will form at the junction. A large crack will result in the death of the tree, but even a small crack will encourage the development of parasites and diseases, which seriously threaten the well-being and longevity of the tree. Installing cables can prevent these disastrous situations.

Low branches

It is normal for the lower branches of a tree to grow longer than the upper branches as they seek to reach the sun's rays from the side. However, they can become too heavy for the tree to support. The bracing method helps the tree with this task and can avoid the need to cut off some of these branches.
